"Immediacy" is one of the first songs we wrote with Jamie in the band and I think maybe it is one of his favorite. It's about the feeling right before something big is going to happen and you can't wait. Anticipation of positive action, good things coming, things YOU are MAKING happen. And you just can't wait. You know that Radiohead song "Creep"? The best part is that ca-chunk sound right before the chorus. That sound, that anticipation, that's what this song is about. Being active, getting things done, all that good stuff. I like to play this one first. there's a place i've got to go to - and i've got to get there now - there's some things that have got to happen - and they've got to happen now - an immediate need - it's got to be - immediacy - it starts with me - gotta start it right now - if you don't know how - immediacy - i'll show you how - cause there's something wrong with this picture - i do not like what i see - and a new communication - is what there needs to be - i think i'm getting antsy - can't sit around here no more - waiting for things to happen - is becoming such a bore - CHORUS - there is somehting wrong with this picture - i do not like what i see - a new administration - is what we really need - we've got to find some new believers - it's up to us to lead - and i have heard it frequently mentioned - that the truth will set us free - CHORUS - we gotta paint a brand new picture - make a brand new structure now - we've got to make the new way happen - got to bring it start it now "What Happens Next" is a newer song that you may not have heard yet. This one was written November 6th, post-extremely-depressing-election. What are they going to do? What are we going to do? I needed something positive to dwell on after learning Bush was getin 4 more years. It also alludes to how even if Kerry won, it would still be mass politics as usual, better, but by inches, not yards. The line "he left you and she left you like rats on a sinking ship" refers to the mass exodus of Bush cabinet members post-reelection, as even they couldn't stomach that much ignorance and evil for 4 more years. If only we were so lucky. Dan Sinker from Punk Planet had a good idea, he writes GWjr everyday! You should check it out at www.dearmrbush.blogspot.com i don't know the way in - and i'm looking for the way out - i don't want to give in - but it gets so cold when the fire's out - we were looking for a sign - maybe looking for some peace of mind - and it wasn't you and it wasn't you - and i know that it wasn't you - so tell me what happens next - who do you blame when there's noone left - tel me what happens next - what can you steal when there's nothing left - is it four more years of talking - or is it four more years of fighting - i've got to live with you for at least four more - so you'll live with me while i settle the score - and he left you - and she left you - they left like rats on a sinking ship - and i'm leaving to - i can't stay here no more - i can't follow you off that cliff - CHORUS "New Constitution" is a newer song, we just finished recording it.At first, I thought maybe it was a little too pop and simple musically, but it has gotten alot of postitive feedback, especially as far as the lyrics and message are concerned. It's about a change in attitude, understanding, patience. Those same redneck jerks that called you faggot in high school anre calling you faggot from Capital Hill. We tear up the old constitution and replace it with one sentence "I will treat others how I want to be treated." when they wrote it - you weren't even born - when they wrote it - it wasn't yellowed and torn - but now you've forgotten the message - forgot what its for - forgotten the meaning - while you started your war - it's not an excuse - for ignorance and abuse - not for you to use - to lock up your friends and make them tell the truth - when they wrote it - they meant for you to be free - when they wrote it - there wasn't equality - they had different problems - they had different rules - now you've learned to ignore them - because you need need something new - so here's your new logo - here's your new set of rules - your new constitution - since the old old wasn't used - not gonna call anyone faggot - not gonna fight in the yard - not gonna beat anybody up - just to prove how big you are - now you should know better - so you should act better "Spaulding Grey" used to be called "Never Learned To Type", but I changed it just now because I want people to know what the songs about. It's about the end of a life well led. It's about being done. Spaulding Grey was an actor, witer of plays, articles, peotry, and an intellectual. Last year, he jumped off the back of the Staten Island Ferry to his death. He left a note, stating his wishes for the message on his tombstone, simply to state, Spaulding Grey-Author, playwright, and he who never learned to type. That, my friends, is punk rock. All you leave behind is dirt - and I know exactly what that's worth - a legacy is nothing but self worth - cause all you leave behind is dirt - and i never learned to type - i barely read or write - but i left behind some friends like you - i told some lies but i told some truth - i was an author and a playwright - but i left all those things behind - i had a career ihad a family - but i left all those things behind -CHORUS - you like to talk alot about legacy - and you you like to talk alot about history - but i had to live with what i said - and you get to live with what you read - chorus
